Hello, I'm Ocean Quigley, SimCity's Creative Director. On behalf of the SimCity team, I'm thrilled to tell you that we just finished our Gold Master disc. As you read this, SimCity discs are starting to roll off the assembly line and into their boxes to be sent to stores around the world for their March launch.
I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how this new SimCity came to be. I started out my career at Maxis as the Art Director for SimCopter and for SimCity 3000. From there I became the Creative Director of SimCity 4, where I had the privilege of developing one of the greatest city-building games of all-time. But that was 2003 and for nearly 10 years I’ve been lobbying the higher ups at EA to let me return to SimCity, the game that brought me into this industry in the first place.
A few years ago, we got our chance. The first thing I did was bring the band back together. I couldn’t find everybody, but I was able to gather a core group of SimCity 4 veterans, and together we set to work. We knew that with modern hardware, we’d be able to take ideas that we’d dreamed about back in SimCity 4’s development and make them real.
We want to take this time to thank all of our friends and families for standing with us as we chased this dream. In particular, I want to thank Lucy Bradshaw, the SVP of Maxis. Admittedly, I told her that if she cut back on funding, she’d regret it! But she took a chance on us and let us chase our dream.
In celebration, we’d like to share a tune from the new SimCity soundtrack with you. The game will be in your hands before you know it, but this might help keep you going until March!

模拟城市主题曲。。。。基于对游戏背景音乐的热爱,听完后我基本上可以读懂每个曲调所讲述的事情

讲述着一位当你成为一个市长时如何规划你的城市,当城市陷入危机时你又该如何去面对和摆脱。。。无不体现游戏对我们每个小市长责任感意识的培养启发。

更体现模拟城市游戏的本质和意义。
建议大家多听几遍,一定会有所收获!

沒有延期如期壓片,依那遊戲內容,被罵的機率不小吧

It’s been seven months since we released SimCity and I wanted to take stock of where we are, respond to some questions and talk about the future.

We’re Listening

First, I want you to know that we are listening to your feedback. We dig deep into the forums, Facebook posts, and Twitter feeds every day to see what players are talking about. There is a lot of feedback and there is a clear passion for SimCity. That’s great to see. And while we appreciate positive feedback, we take very seriously the players who have criticisms. Players have high expectations of what goes into our games and we have an obligation to deliver.

We continuously review this feedback alongside in-game telemetry to help us decide where to focus our game tuning and development efforts. We’ve formed dedicated teams to explore specific features. Some player requests, such as a tool to raise and lower roads, were straightforward challenges. Some of the larger asks, such as bigger city maps and an offline mode, have required more thought and exploratory work.

Seven Months, Seven Major Updates

We’ve released seven major updates in the last seven months, which have evolved the gameplay experience and the core of our simulation. GlassBox powered our first agent based simulation and this system created depth and complexity like we’ve never had before. This opened up a whole new world of tuning and we’ve spent our time making sure that all players, whatever track they take their cities through, are getting a challenging experience. I encourage you to watch Dan’s great talk from GDC 2013 to give you an idea of just how complex SimCity’s system really is.

Traffic was always meant to be a challenge; in fact, many of our team considered traffic to be a strategy game all on its own. But, in reality, traffic was behaving irrationally. We got the player feedback and fixed it. Cars are smarter, buses are more intelligent in their routing, and the new raise/lower tool brought new ways to route traffic throughout the city. Tuning is the life blood of the simulation and we continue to monitor and make enhancements to the way GlassBox responds to our players. Stability and performance increases are also a constant area of focus for us; servers are stable and performance continues to improve on lower spec machines.

We’ve also heard feedback on our strategy and pricing for DLC. My commitment on DLC for SimCity is that we do not force players to purchase game elements that are essentially helping to tune the simulation or fix specific issues. And for that optional content, we always want players to feel like it’s valuable. Along with paid DLC, we’ve also been providing free content. The first two million players received the Launch Park, we recently released new hotels and houses of worship, and we’re planning to release additional free content soon - more region maps, more free buildings and more.

User Generated Content (UGC) Discussions Underway

Maxis has a long tradition of supporting User Generated Content (UGC) and the UGC community. We have begun a discussion with our players with the ultimate goal of giving you space to mod while assuring all our players that the multiplayer gameplay experience is safe and has integrity. It’s difficult to determine what makes a “good” or safe mod and what mods cross the line. Clarifying guidelines for UGC will help players understand where that line is. We want to have an open discussion with our community about what you want out ofSimCity and hear your thoughts about UGC guidelines. To join the discussion go here.

Exploration for Offline Mode is Happening

Right now we have a team specifically focused on exploring the possibility of an offline mode. I can’t make any promises on when we will have more information, but we know this is something that many of our players have been asking for. While the server connectivity issues are behind us, we would like to give our players the ability to play even if they choose not to connect. An offline mode would have the additional benefit of providing room to the modding community to experiment without interfering or breaking the multiplayer experience.

Bigger Cities

City sizes have been a constant point of conversation among our players since we released the game. The game’s original design focused on the density of an intimate urban environment. It was about intercity connectivity and the challenge of managing a region of cities instead of one metropolis in isolation. However, we recognize that many players have expressed the desire to build up one big city rather than manage the interrelationship of multiple smaller cities.

We’ve put months of investigation into making larger city sizes, reworking the terrain maps, changing the routing algorithms of our agent-based system and altering the way that GlassBox processes the data in a larger space.

After months of testing, I confirm that we will not be providing bigger city sizes. The system performance challenges we encountered would mean that the vast majority of our players wouldn’t be able to load, much less play with bigger cities. We’ve tried a number of different approaches to bring performance into an acceptable range, but we just couldn’t achieve it within the confines of the engine. We’ve chosen to cease work on bigger city sizes and put that effort into continuing to evolve the core game and explore an offline mode. Some of the experiments we conducted to improve performance on bigger cities will be rolled into future updates to improve overall game performance.

Cities of Tomorrow

Two weeks ago we announced SimCity Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack. You can read more about that here, but what I want to make clear is that we have a separate team working on Cities of Tomorrow. It does not divert attention away from enhancing the core game and finding a way to bring our game offline.

Our launch wasn’t what anyone on the team hoped for. We think about this every single day, but we’re proud of how far we’ve come over the past few months.

Like you, I’m a SimCity fan and a passionate gamer. That passion for the original SimCity was one of the influences that led me to study Government in college and to work on Capitol Hill. But my love of gaming drove me from Washington DC to California to join Will Wright’s studio 17 years ago. SimCity is in my blood and if there’s one thing I know about Maxis is that it attracts a certain kind of game maker, those who love simulations and take personal joy in bringing these worlds to life. We’re all passionate about SimCity and we want to make it better.

貌似GlassBox的繁复运算导致SC13不能扩展大地图的样子……其实个人认为,不一定要用4x、16x的方式扩大现有地图的说,2x到3x(相比现在的地图)的扩大已经能满足不少核心玩家的需求;本人甚至认为,把多个小地图紧密地拼合在一起,也比现在这样的“孤岛式”城市要好。
另外,貌似Maxis要开放MOD开发?希望在SC13的开发暂告一段落之后可以开放MOD的制作,并能做好MOD Exchange的问题……

        Hello, Mayors and Sim citizens – I’m balance designer Ross Treyz and in this blog we’re going to talk about an awesome new feature of the SimCity Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack: MegaTowers. MegaTowers are giant structures where the Sims of the future live, work, and play. MegaTowers are a great addition to any city, or you can build a city based around them.

Because MegaTowers build up, not out, they can act as a self-contained ecosystem. The residential levels on MegaTowers can also house more Sims then the high-density buildings of the same wealth levels, so you can have more Sims in your city than ever before. This is especially important for attracting Sims to work in the Academy, which we’ll talk more about next week.

There are two types of MegaTowers: normal and elite. Normal MegaTowers are designed for low and medium wealth Sims. Elite MegaTowers are designed for medium and high wealth Sims. Normal MegaTowers are less expensive and earn less money, and some of the levels don’t have as much functionality as their elite equivalents. Elite MegaTowers are expensive to build and earn more money than normal MegaTowers. Most of the levels of the elite MegaTowers provide better coverage than the normal version.

Once you have picked what kind of MegaTower you want to build, there are a few things to consider when placing it. MegaTowers have multiple entrances; once you plop the base, you can attach roads to the road stubs on the sides. These “side entrances” can allow you to route traffic to and from the MegaTower in new and interesting ways. Also, MegaTowers can provide many of the essential services to themselves and the area around them by building specialized levels, so you will want to consider that when placing your MegaTower and connecting it to roads.

There are three basic types of levels that you can build on a MegaTower: Apartment, Mall, and Office. Apartment levels are where Sims live, Mall levels are where they shop, and they work in Office levels.

Basic Levels

Beyond Apartment, Mall, and Office levels, there are also service levels you can build on a MegaTower. These levels provide services right inside the tower. Normal MegaTowers have Nuclear Reactor Levels which work like Nuclear Power Plants. They require education from a college or university and will start leaking radiation if they don’t get it. On Elite MegaTowers, you can build Fusion Power levels. Fusion Power levels require ControlNet (which is produced by The Academy, something we’ll talk about next week), but will never leak radiation.  

Education

You can build Education levels on both normal and Elite Megatowers. Education levels on normal MegaTowers work just like a high school, though they hold more students and have a better price-per-desk. The Elite Education levels work like a community college, but again, the Elite Education level holds more students at a better price-per-desk than regular community college.

Waste Reduction

Both normal and Elite MegaTowers can build waste reduction levels. Waste reduction levels greatly reduce the amount of garbage and sewage that the MegaTower makes, while also reducing the water consumed. They also increase the amount of garbage that is converted into recycling.

Skybridge

Another level that you can build on both Elite and Normal MegaTowers are Skybridge levels. You can use Skybridge levels to connect different MegaTowers together. We’ll be talking more about Skybridges in a later blog, so stay tuned for that.

Parks

Park levels on normal and Elite MegaTowers work just like regular parks. The park levels on Elite MegaTowers even add land value around the MegaTower where they are built.

Safety

Safety levels hold OmegaCo safety drones. When there is an emergency, the drones will be deployed to solve the problem. Normal safety drones will put out fires and rehabilitate criminals, whereas Elite safety drones will put out fires, rehabilitate criminals, and cure sickness and injury. Of course, you’ll need OmegaCo in your city to produce drones. We’ll talk more about that in a couple of weeks.

Crowns

The last thing you will build on your MegaTower is a crown. Crowns are special levels that can only be built on the top of a MegaTower. Crowns provide special bonuses that stack with the other Crowns in your region.

The Air pollution scrubber crown will clean up air pollution around your MegaTower and convert it into ground water. Building multiple Air Scrubber crowns will increase the amount of pollution cleaned. This is perfect if you want to build an industrial-heavy city, as the MegaTower will not only be able to house your low wealth Sims, but the Air Scrubber will also eliminate all that nasty air pollution from your factories.

Each tower can build a power crown which will boost the output of other power crowns. Normal MegaTowers build Wind Power Crowns. Elite MegaTowers can build Solar Power Crowns. Building multiple Power Crowns boosts power production from all power crowns, which will allow you to supply power to other neighboring cities in your regionYou can also build a tourism crown, which attracts tourists and earns profits based on tourist attendance. Normal Tower Tourism crowns take low and medium wealth tourists. Elite Tower Tourism crowns take medium and high wealth tourists. Each tourism crown built increases the money you earn for each tourist that goes to a tourism crown. So if you like to build tourist cities, this crown is essential to really maximizing your profits.
天桥:

        Greetings, Mayors! When you think of a city of tomorrow, I’d bet you picture amazing high-tech buildings using mind-blowing, innovative science. Well, welcome to The Academy! The Academy is a new building in the SimCity Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack that helps transform your city into that futuristic metropolis in your imagination. The Academy is a think tank that hires workers to research new high-tech buildings and modules. While there are jobs at The Academy for all wealth levels, most are high wealth, so The Academy thrives in a gleaming and pristine city of rich people.

Once The Academy employs enough workers to open, you can start researching high-tech buildings. You’ll immediately have multiple research projects to choose from, including the Maglev, a hyper-fast elevated train, which we’ll be talking more about in the coming weeks. After you complete at least one research project, you can research a level upgrade for The Academy. With each upgrade, you can add a new annex module to The Academy, unlocking additional research projects.

Annexes to your Academy will allow you to research awesome new buildings like the Fusion Power Plant, which provides large amounts of clean power at a huge cost (perfect for cities that want to stay nice and clean). Another module leads to the Garbage Atomizer that slowly atomizes garbage to reduce pollution. Keep in mind, however, that researching these upgrades will require a lot of upkeep, so it’s best to ensure your city is making a steady profit before you invest in these clean technologies. But if your city can support it, building The Academy will not only support your current city, but also the neighboring cities in you region as well, as everyone can take advantage of all the beneficial research it provides.

One of the best effects of The Academy is that all of the high-tech research being conducted at The Academy raises the tech level of nearby industry. The Academy also raises the land value around it, so you’ll have to decide whether to position it near industry or residential. Providing more high wealth workers to The Academy will help you complete research faster, but they're a notoriously picky bunch, so keeping them happy will be a challenge. You can build a MegaTower near your Academy to bring in those high wealth Sims fast, though. Part of the challenge of building a future city is balancing the wants and needs of The Academy works against the wants and needs of your MegaTowers.

The Academy not only researches new buildings and their modules, it also researches new modules for some of your existing buildings. Complete the Solar/Wind Power Amplifier research for example, and anyone in the region can double the power output of their Solar or Wind Power Plants. These particular modules unlock for anyone in the same region, even if they don't have Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack.

There’s one thing you need to know before you start deploying all these cool new technologies. All of the buildings and modules researched by The Academy require a connection to ControlNet. ControlNet is a wireless quantum computing network that The Academy generates. The workers at The Academy will generate ControlNet bandwidth. If the signal is weak, your city won't be dealing with dropped calls, it'll be dealing with buildings shutting down, so keep The Academy supplied with workers! High wealth workers create more ControlNet than lower wealth workers, so a high wealth city is your best bet to keep that technology running. Keep this in mind when building out the levels in your MegaTower, as what you choose may have a significant impact on how your city develops.

        What is Omega? Well, as a gameplay scripter working on the brand new SimCity Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack, I can tell you: I haven’t got a clue.

I do know that this mysterious, state-of-the-art, super-strong, super-conducting, lightweight, fruit-flavored, and all-around amazing  substance is somehow created by combining tons of Oil and Ore in a very secretive, elaborate, and sometimes smelly process. I also know that Sims of the future will be chomping at the bit to get their hands on it, and that’s where OmegaCo comes in.

OmegaCo is your very own futuristic mega-corporation. Your goal is to take the technological wonder that is Omega and make tons of Simoleons off of it by building OmegaCo factories in key strategic locations across your city. Each factory comes with a production facility that will produce and deliver Omega to nearby industrial buildings. At first, Omega is distributed for free, but after a certain amount of deliveries, those industries become “Omegized” into OmegaCo-owned franchises. At that point, they’ll start paying you on the hour while producing quality Omega-infused goods! Sure, Omega pollutes, smells funny and puts odd, magenta-colored smoke vapors into the air, but your industrial businesses will learn to live with it.

Those same industrial buildings, now part of the OmegaCo family, will start shipping Omega to commercial shops and offices. Again, after a certain number of shipments, those buildings become Omegized as well, and your growing profits reach even higher. You can see how Omega spreads across your city almost like a virus… but a good virus… that makes you rich. And, yes, Omega has been known to be quite toxic, but that’s only if it’s stored improperly!

The next step, of course, is converting residential buildings to OmegaCo subscribers. That’s where drone technology shines. With the vast amounts of simoleons you've made from Omega, you can now invest in shelling out new OmegaCo BuyDrones to every man, woman, and child in the city. As with Omega, the first few drones are free, but at a certain point those residences start paying you hourly subscription fees.

As BuyDrones arrive in houses and apartments across the city, they take over the arduous task of shopping for that Sim, allowing them to stay home and surf the web in super-3D-HD-virtual-augmented living rooms. Imagine the amount of cars being taken off the road! Traffic will be a problem of the past!!  OmegaCo has always cared very much about the environment... *muffled laughing*

Think you're done yet? Ha! Not even close. Drones that are programmed by users to bring back Omega from OmegaCo-owned commercial buildings will instantly double the profits from that house. Is that still not enough cash flow? What if I said you can take over Megatowers? Oh that's nothing... What if I said you can take over the entire region? Hey... Did you just hear a cash register go cha-ching in your brain?

So I hope you are starting to get why OmegaCo is so awesome. I mean, who doesn't want a swimming pool filled with diamonds? But, of course, being the CEO of a giant mega-corporation is not all fun and games. Omega creation can be a very difficult and demanding process that requires lots of workers, water, and power. Most notably, Omega requires an unyielding, ever-flowing supply of Oil and Ore amassed in factories. Thankfully, the latest in OmegaCo Extraction technology allows users to extract both Ore and Oil at the same time and send the molten mess down highly pressurized pipelines! That’s not all! You are now allowed to build custom OmegaCo VTOL Pads that will have all your required resources flown directly to factories in a matter of hours. No more global market trucks waiting in freeway traffic.

That’s right! Sims love Omega! But once they get a taste of it they’ll be breaking down doors for more and more of it. If you slip on Omega shipments, or the Omega runs dry… watch out— those Sims are going to be fuming! Do you have what it takes to keep up with the exponential growth in demand? Trust us; a pack of grumpy, Omega-dependent Sims, whining constantly about dwindling Omega deliveries is not a pleasant thing to deal with!

Well as long as you’ve got the guts of a chief executive in you, and you can keep the Omega flowing like water, you’re going to be okay. OmegaCo is a wonderful opportunity for the future, and I can’t wait to see what magnificent, treasury-busting, OmegaCo-owned cities you guys are going to make!

“解决规划分区情况下,会出现在道路生长的建筑”这个bug终于修复了啊,之前每次看到道路上长建筑就相当蛋疼。

在普通和精英megatower上建设广告王冠将会提高你从塔里的商场和办公室赚取到的税,多个广告王冠会相互作用提高利润。
公园王冠,就像普通的公园一样,建设公园王冠来增加居民满意度。

I want to introduce you to some of the unique transportation options we are adding in this expansion pack. One of SimCity’s core mechanics is deciding and optimizing how Sims move around your city. With Cities of Tomorrow, we are expanding on that with several unique transportation tools that Mayors can utilize to create vast transportation networks high above the streets of your city.

One of the big new transportation tools we’re adding is a futuristic mass transit type called the “Maglev.” Maglev trains run on elevated tracks above your city’s road network and shorter buildings, and are heavily influenced by both reality (actively operating magnetic levitation trains in China and Japan) and the theoretical (Elon Musk’s Hyperloop concept for mass transit). Gameplay wise, the maglev behaves like a light rail network with several key differences. The first is that the maglev track is raised above the ground, allowing it to travel above roads without having to stop for car or drone traffic. The track can be drawn off-road as well giving your city shortcuts between separate districts in your city. The RCI zoning system has also been updated to allow some lower density buildings to actually be constructed underneath the tracks, so you don’t have to sacrifice precious RCI space to make way for that maglev line extension.

The second difference is that there is no central depot that maglev trains have to return to. Maglev stations snap along both narrow and wide roads and include their own garage for a maglev train. Because each station includes its own garage, you can create a decentralized transportation network that moves Sims of all wealth types quickly around your city. The only caveat is that each station requires ControlNet to operate, so you will need to make sure your Academy buildings are fully staffed or that you are able to import enough ControlNet from your neighbors, to keep your Maglev Trains running.

Another exciting transport feature we have added are Skybridges. Current skybridge technology, like the connection between the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, is restricted to being short, straight, and limited on what it can carry. Our Skybridges can link two separate MegaTowers with a long and curvy path that allows for the transfer of power, sewage, water, pedestrians, and even vehicles between the two buildings. Before building a Skybridge, both MegaTowers each must possess a transportation level. Transportation levels provide up to four Skybridge connections to other Transportation levels, provided that both levels are fully operational. Once the levels power up, Skybridges will allow the free flow of utilities and Sims between MegaTowers high above your city, but be careful, if even one transport level powers down, it could spell gridlock for your streets below.

Skybridges add a unique and exciting dimension to how Sims move around your city. For example, you could have a MegaTower with only commercial and office levels connected via Skybridge to a purely residential MegaTower. In a completely optimal layout, Sims living in a MegaTower would not have to even lay a foot on the street level to go to work and shop. Managing the flow of Sims between MegaTowers efficiently is integral to making sure your MegaTowers stay profitable and functioning. Just keep in mind that Transportation levels should be integrated into the structure of your tower ahead of time. Otherwise, you might find yourself bulldozing some levels to make a Skybridge connection.

While both Maglevs and Skybridges are unlocked through The Academy specialization, drones are a powerful new congestion-fighting tool that is unlocked through progression in the OmegaCo specialization. Drones in Cities of Tomorrow are influenced by current military unmanned aerial vehicle technology, but focused on how that technology could improve and affect cities. Drones follow existing roads in your city, but fly above the car and pedestrian traffic and are not impeded by stop signs or lights. The OmegaCo Drone Assembly Line add-on at the OmegaCo Factory produces generic OmegaCo drones that search for an acceptable reprogramming building. If an OmegaCo drone enters a residential building, it will be reprogrammed into a BuyDrone. The next time the Sims in that building want to leave to go shopping, a BuyDrone will shop for them instead. This effectively lowers the amount of shopping pedestrians and cars travelling on roads in your city, while also growing your OmegaCo subscriber base (and hourly profits).

OmegaCo also produces a line of utilitarian OmegaCo Drone Hangers that can be attached to Large Fire Stations, Hospitals, and Police Precincts. Depending on which hanger an OmegaCo drone enters, the drone will be reprogrammed into either a FireDrone (responds to fires), MediDrone (heals injuries), or LawDrones (catches criminals). Because these drones are not bound to the laws of the road, FireDrones, MediDrones, and LawDrones are extremely efficient at keeping your city running smoothly during emergencies. All of this efficiency comes at a price, as all four drone types will eventually break down after use. Maximizing your OmegaCo Drone Assembly Line’s OmegaCo drone output is the key to keeping your OmegaCo BuyDrone Subscribers happy.

In addition to the gameplay additions mentioned above, the team has also added a wide variety of aesthetic changes to the transportation network of your city, including futurized versions of our existing vehicles, roads and bridges. Along with the existing traffic improvements found in Update 7, Mayors focused on optimizing their city’s transportation networks will have a wealth of options to experiment with in their cities. I am looking forward to seeing how you integrate these new transportation options into your existing cities, as well as use them in your cities of tomorrow.

其实我对这一代的拟真已经不考虑了,有娱乐就可以了,毕竟是系列重启,不拿拟真做主题的游戏做比较玩起来会比较开心。。
看起来maxis也没打算往这方面走,彻底走科幻路线,本以为当中还会出几个比较贴近生活的DLC呢。。。。
不过就算这样,还是好想玩呢。。。

Cities of Tomorrow will not only feature new city specializations (OmegaCo and The Academy) and massive MegaTowers, but it will also include four new maps (Desolation, Rambling Badlands, Verdant Jungle, and Serenity Key) specifically tailored to the new features of Cities of Tomorrow. The other great news is that these maps will be released to all players free of charge. Players who don’t yet have the expansion will still be able to play with players who do!

For the new regions, we created new texture sets for tropical and desert wasteland-style maps.

Not only have the textures changed, but we’ve also changed the amount of available water in the tropical regions (Verdant Jungle and Serenity Key) compared to the new desert regions (Desolation and Rambling Badlands). In the desert regions, many of the city plots have very limited amounts of water. Fear not, however, as the Cities of Tomorrow expansion has provided Mayors with various new ways to recover water for use in their cities or even reduce water consumption.

The new MegaTowers have a level called the “Waste Reduction Level” that decreases the amount of water consumption overall in the MegaTower. Also, MegaTowers have a topper crown level called the “Air Scrubber” that converts air pollution into a rain cloud that will add water to the water map. The last option is to research a Sewage Sanitizer at The Academy that can convert sewage directly into water. None of the new options are meant to replace the Water Plant, but merely supplement its output.

The new region Desolation is designed to be a regional challenge for Mayors. In this region, one of the cities has been struck by a horrible ecological disaster.

The site is heavily polluted with radiation and ground pollution. The surrounding cities will have to work together to fund the cleanup and research the tech to actually clean up the irradiated wasteland. For this project, building The Academy is required, as the Ground Scrubber building is unlocked from there. The Ground Scrubber runs on ControlNet that the Academy produces. ControlNet requires High Wealth Sims to generate. The High Wealth Sims will refuse to live in an irradiated area of a city plot, so the best bet would be to create a High Wealth City and export the ControlNet to the city with the irradiated wasteland. I actually built two High Wealth Cities for extra ControlNet; they can be seen in the background here:

When there is finally enough money and everything is unlocked it is time to start throwing down ground scrubbers like crazy.

So much time and work! Why would any Mayor be crazy enough to do all of this? Maybe they are profoundly environmentalist by nature. I’m just kidding – there is a ton of money to be made! This is the only three star city site in the game for all resources. This site has an overabundance of every mining resource. There is just some work involved in getting it. The other added bonus is once you have cleaned up the polluted area, you can build OmegaCo factories next to existing Ground Scrubbers to lower the output of the mining pollution, allowing you to be both environmental and profitable.

For the new regions, we created new texture sets for tropical and desert wasteland-style maps.

Not only have the textures changed, but we’ve also changed the amount of available water in the tropical regions (Verdant Jungle and Serenity Key) compared to the new desert regions (Desolation and Rambling Badlands). In the desert regions, many of the city plots have very limited amounts of water. Fear not, however, as the Cities of Tomorrow expansion has provided Mayors with various new ways to recover water for use in their cities or even reduce water consumption.

The new MegaTowers have a level called the “Waste Reduction Level” that decreases the amount of water consumption overall in the MegaTower. Also, MegaTowers have a topper crown level called the “Air Scrubber” that converts air pollution into a rain cloud that will add water to the water map. The last option is to research a Sewage Sanitizer at The Academy that can convert sewage directly into water. None of the new options are meant to replace the Water Plant, but merely supplement its output.

The new region Desolation is designed to be a regional challenge for Mayors. In this region, one of the cities has been struck by a horrible ecological disaster.

The site is heavily polluted with radiation and ground pollution. The surrounding cities will have to work together to fund the cleanup and research the tech to actually clean up the irradiated wasteland. For this project, building The Academy is required, as the Ground Scrubber building is unlocked from there. The Ground Scrubber runs on ControlNet that the Academy produces. ControlNet requires High Wealth Sims to generate. The High Wealth Sims will refuse to live in an irradiated area of a city plot, so the best bet would be to create a High Wealth City and export the ControlNet to the city with the irradiated wasteland. I actually built two High Wealth Cities for extra ControlNet; they can be seen in the background here:

When there is finally enough money and everything is unlocked it is time to start throwing down ground scrubbers like crazy.

So much time and work! Why would any Mayor be crazy enough to do all of this? Maybe they are profoundly environmentalist by nature. I’m just kidding – there is a ton of money to be made! This is the only three star city site in the game for all resources. This site has an overabundance of every mining resource. There is just some work involved in getting it. The other added bonus is once you have cleaned up the polluted area, you can build OmegaCo factories next to existing Ground Scrubbers to lower the output of the mining pollution, allowing you to be both environmental and profitable.

Thankfully, the two new tropical regions don’t have the same environmental issues. Instead, you’ll notice beautiful new trees and scenery, perfect for the eco-friendly tastes of The Academy. Whichever regions you end up choosing, you’ll have plenty of choices when building your Cities of Tomorrow.

        Hello again, Mayors! I’m Gameplay Scripter John Giordano. If you’ve read our The Academy and OmegaCo blogs, it might be obvious that these two organizations are perhaps a smidge dissimilar from each other (and by smidge I mean vastly incompatible). The Academy is a bastion of order and harmony, while OmegaCo is a chaotic, money-making demagogue obsessed with urban dominion. The Academy uses advanced technology to spread earth-saving sciences across the region, while OmegaCo thrives on environmentally-destructive automation and Sims that can’t read fine print. Like me, you may have trouble deciding which path you want to go down, but also like me, you may not want to be forced into a decision. Thankfully, there is nothing stopping you from trying to make a city that combines both of these specializations into one, glorious city. Behold, Omegacademy:

That’s right! It’s possible to have Omega-filled Academy cities, or Academy-filled Omega cities (whichever you prefer). While by no means should it be considered easy, there are a number of strategies you might use to get there. I’ll give a rundown on my attempts and let you debate if I took the right approach or not.

The first important decision will be choosing a starting city. For OmegaCo Extraction Pods to be successful, I’m going to want a city that has both ore and oil, and particularly one that has these resources stacked or fairly close to one another. There are a number of maps where this is possible in the four new regions we are releasing with the expansion pack. I chose Desolation, which has a number of nice, flat spaces that are filled with yummy-delicious resources. To start my city, I built The Academy portion of my city upwind. This is important because OmegaCo is going to create large swaths of air pollution that Academy residents are not going to like. The first thing I’ll want to do is work my way through the Academy tech tree to get all the neat innovations that can help mitigate the problems that will come up with Omega. Here’s what I’ll research:

Sewage Sanitizer: This has the benefit of taking sewage and turning it into fresh, clean water. Don’t make that face – it’s completely safe. We can use this to support the massive water needs of OmegaCo while eliminating our sewage problems at the same time.

Pollution Scrubber: The pollution scrubber is a small building that draws pollution straight out of the ground. Since I’m thinking of placing a Nuclear Power Plant due to OmegaCo being a giant power hog, and since the pollution scrubber sucks up radiation as well as ground pollution, this might be a good choice.

Okay, so I have all the academy research I want complete. The next step is to carefully insert OmegaCo into my Academy city. I’ve saved some space downwind to start doing this. One thing to note is that OmegaCo franchise fees are actually lower for higher wealth levels (they think it’s below them for some reason), so I will need to take over more buildings faster if I want to keep OmegaCo afloat. There are additional buildings that I can unlock with the OmegaCo HQ that can help me in this endeavor. Here’s what I might do:

Safety Drones: With the OmegaCo Robotics Wing, I can open up the Fire, Police, and Health Safety Drone Garages as well as the Safety Level on MegaTowers. Safety drones make for definitive city services as they’re fast, effective, and cheap. While they are one-shot solutions (for example the fire safety drone explodes with water when it gets to a fire), there will be an overwhelming supply of them if I keep my drone manufacturing line running. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a huge drove of safety drones flooding the streets stomping out emerging issues before they even start. Of course, the best way to achieve this is to build a MegaTower that is all safety levels.

Extraction Pods: So I said near the start of this blog that I would pick a city site with lots of oil and ore. This is where I’ll take advantage of it. By getting the extraction wing on my OmegaCo HQ, I can start creating a network of extraction pods and omega pipelines to feed my factories with resources. This is great since now I’ll be able to shut off the Global Market and save tons of simoleons in the process. Another great thing to note is that pipelines can interconnect between multiple factories. I can make a huge pipeline network spanning across my city connecting all factories to all resources even in the nookiest of crannies.

Okay, so I’ve set up OmegaCo and it’s starting to take over the academy parts of my city. Here’s where the challenge comes in. The problems start to stack up fast, especially for those picky Academy residents. I have to make sure that I am taking care of sewage, pollution, crime, fire, health, and garbage… and there’s no room for error! So what’s my final answer to this?

With the Pollution Scrubbers I’ve researched, I can now create a walled fortress that surrounds and barricades the OmegaCo sections of my city cutting them off from the rest of the world. My strategy is to keep placing Pollution Scrubbers everywhere until they cover up all the ill effects of OmegaCo like a throwing a blanket over a backed up toilet. This combined with several maxed out safety level MegaTowers topped with Air Scrubber crowns might just be the end-all, be-all, for-sure-all solution to making a perfect and stable Omega-Academy city.

绿色生态和巨型企业同时发展,难度还是不低的。可持续的城市化,又有产业,又结合自然,具有更多的可玩性和挑战性。
